BASECAMP EXPLORER × LOCAL COMMUNITY
Community Contribution
At Basecamp Explorer Spitsbergen, being present in the Arctic means being part of a real, year-round community. We believe responsible travel goes beyond protecting nature — it also involves supporting the people who live and work here.
Our approach is rooted in long-term relationships, local knowledge, and a deep respect for the rhythms of life in Longyearbyen and across Svalbard.

Local employment and Arctic knowledge
Our operations are built around people who live and work in Svalbard year-round. By employing local guides, hosts, and operational staff, we ensure that our experiences are shaped by lived knowledge of the Arctic — not assumptions.
This approach supports long-term employment while giving guests a deeper, more authentic understanding of the place they are visiting.
Working with the local community
We work closely with local suppliers, partners, and service providers to ensure our presence contributes positively to the community. From logistics and maintenance to food and services, we prioritise local collaboration wherever possible.
By staying aligned with local regulations, seasonal realities, and community expectations, we aim to operate in a way that is respectful, responsible, and sustainable over time.
