Basecamp

Maps & Routes

Svalbard is vast, remote, and shaped by powerful natural forces. Our journeys begin from a small number of carefully chosen basecamps, with routes that adapt to seasons, terrain, and Arctic conditions. This map offers an overview of where our adventures unfold.

Summer Routes

In summer, Basecamp Explorer offers adventures that showcase Svalbard’s daylight wilderness and remote shores. You can book day trips around Longyearbyen or take boat safaris to outposts where hiking, kayaking and glacier walking are on the menu, experiencing wildlife and open tundra under the midnight sun.

Winter Routes

In winter, you can learn how to drive a snowmobile or mush a dog sled, whether it’s on a one-day trip around Longyearbyen or a multi-night expedition deep into the Arctic wilderness. Winter also brings the opportunity to hunt for northern lights on short trips or longer packages to our lodges.

Polar Night Routes

During the darkest months between October and March, northern lights experiences take centre stage. With Basecamp you can choose short day or half-day trips to hunt for aurora borealis, or join longer packages including nights at remote lodges, experiencing the polar night sky and Arctic silence.
